I hired to Sterners Moving company to pack, disassemble furniture, transport, and reassemble furniture. The estimated time I was given was 8 hours to pack and 8 hours to move with 4 employees to pack and 4 employees to do the moving. In order to assist them with this I borrowed a full size Chevy Van with the hope to reduce time and made a total of 7 trips with the van being completely full on each trip. However on the day of the move the 26 ft. truck they broughtt got full with only 2/3 of the home being packed and had to make 2 trips which greatly increased the time of the project. Upon arrival at the new home after the first trip one of the four employees went home and unfortunately he was the one with the tools to disassemble and reassemble my furniture!! After we unloaded the truck and went back to my old home another employee left!! I was down to 2 employees and we were already past the estimated 8 hrs. and we had no tools!! My son and I had been assisting them throughout the day and continued to do so. We had explained that we had wanted the refrigerator moved as well because it was less than 1 yr old and we love it. However, since they didn't have any tools to remove the doors they tried forcing it down a set of stairs and damaged the refrigerator, the walls, and the hardwood flooring. They were unsuccessful with their attempt and they decided they were not going to move it!! I tried calling the owner over a dozen times throughout the day to get help, but he refused to answer any of calls for 3 days!! Once we back at our new home the lead mover refused to put together any of our furniture and my wife and I were left with figuring out how to do so for the next 2 days. They caused damage to the flooring, damage to the walls, and damaged the refrigerator in the old home, and they scratched the flooring on my hardwood flooring in my new home. Once we were able to get Mr. Sterner on the phone 3 days later he agreed to waive 1/2 of the bill if we did not hold him liable for the damages. I think that is ridiculous!! I shouldn't have to pay 1/2 of the bill because they only did 1/2 the amount of work and I should be compensated for the damages and for the cost of now having to pay someone else to move the refrigerator!! Never, never use Sterners moving!! I have filed a complaint with the Pennsylvania Utilities Commission and with the Better Business Bureau.
