I wish I could say I had a positive experience with Birthways. I wanted so badly to birth with them. My pregnancy was easy and no complications. I saw midwife Aubrey for most of my care and I was extremely happy with them. Until I had my visit with midwife Christina during my THIRD trimester. My entire pregnancy I was taking my prescribed low-THC full spectrum RSO oil for nausea/pain when needed. I was open and up front from my FIRST appointment and was assured that it was not an issue. Only to be told differently 9 months down the road. My entire pregnancy this was fine, until my appointment with Christina. She made me feel like I was a dr*g add!ct for ingesting a natural medicine that many mothers use during pregnancy for many different reasons. Including many mothers I’ve known that have birthed with Birthways. It’s taken me a year to sit and right this because she made me feel so unsupported during a very vulnerable time of my life. She told me I would need to birth at Sarasota memorial hospital if I tested positive for THC anymore. At 33 weeks pregnant. Knowing it would not be out of my system before birth even if I stopped right then. I transferred to another birthing center and got my beautiful birth just as I wanted. After spending double the amount of money I should’ve had to. I would recommend the other midwives in this practice but not Christina, and that is difficult as it seems as if she is the one that runs the show. I still think about it to this day, trying to figure out why she singled me out and was so cold… but I just can’t figure it out. If you want transparency and warmth, I suggest making the trek to the birthing center a little further away.

I also want to add that my passion is birth work and have dreamed of becoming a midwife for years. After my interaction with Christina I truly thought I lost my passion for almost a year. I felt as though if this is how midwives are treating birthing people, I did not want to be a part of it. It was only recently that I was able to separate her from the most amazing midwives I’ve had before her.. and after. Now, it has solidified my desire and I am even more determined to give birthing people a safe and warm hand through their journey of becoming a parent. I am continuing with my passion and I will never let someone deter me again.
