And that's what's wrong with Rancho Smog.

While you're at it, hand over $29.95 for a test they know will fail.

Silly me: I didn't know that the ORD system check light was grounds for failure. I'm not a smog test expert.

The tech admitted he saw the light before the test started but said nothing. When I told the clerk I thought this was a deceptive business practice she said "if I told every person with a check engine light to fix it before testing, I'd turn people away all day."

My point being: my regular mechanic (and most places of business that would like to retain you as a customer) would have asked me if I knew the check engine light was on before taking my money. Sure. It was only $29.95, but really? Where is the customer service?

Oh wait: she told me it was my "fault" and that I "needed to get a new personality."

When it comes to my car, I don't want to support a place that would knowingly take your money because I "should have known better." Do you? What if it was your mom; your daughter; your girlfriend? Choose wisely. Choose elsewhere.

Note: The new personality might be a little harder to shop for :-)
