Reviews of Bella Vida Yoga in Jacksonville Beach

I came to Bella Vida 2 years ago and liked the small classes. The studio itself was a little run down and in need of repairs especially in the bathroom. Faucets were missing and the tile on the floor was broken. The bolsters that were used as props in the classes were torn and falling apart. But there were several teachers there that I liked so I ignored those things.
After a year I decided to do the yoga teacher training YTT200 there with Brittany, the owner. The cost was $2500 for 6 months of training. I was disappointed in the training as Brittany just seemed to "wing it" in each class. We never got a syllabus so we never knew what was going to be done unless we asked. For several of the classes we spent our time reading out loud from one of our books like we were in first grade. I felt our time could have been more productive doing reading outside of class. Also a good amount of the class time was spent chatting about things that were not yoga related. And once Brittany spread gossip about a fellow yoga teacher that I found very disturbing
After getting my YTT I did an audition with Brittany to be able to substitute teach at the studio I had belonged to for almost 2 years. She gave me several chances to sub in the beginning. Then all calls to sub stopped. I questioned her about this wondering if I did something wrong and maybe I could correct whatever it was. After questioning why I couldn't work there for the 2nd time in 3 months, I was told I was "obsessive" to keep asking her this.
The only thing I could think of as to why she wouldn't hire me to even get on the substitute list, was that I didn't fit the profile she had of what she wanted her teachers to LOOK like. I'm a middle aged woman and not particularly thin. I had to assume this was the reason as she never gave me another reason why even though I asked her directly.
I have two months left in my membership there and will try to stick it out so I don't waste money. But every time one of my fellow yogis asks why I'm no longer teaching, I take the opportunity to share this story.
