I had the extreme unfortunate displeasure of dealing with this crooked company in the summer of 2006 or 2007. The salesman came out to my home, was incredibly friendly and helpful to sell me a new 4 ton 14 seer Carrier A/C unit and new ductwork. The estimate was $8,000 something. I believe the ductwork was around $1500, and the A/C was the rest. When the project started, the installers went up into the attic and said, "Oh you don't need new ductwork." Bearing in mind, my house was built in 1984. So, it's like 20+ years old at this point. THEY decided not to replace the ductwork, and then the project was completed in 4 hours. I wouldn't sign off on the paperwork until the owner reduced the price of my final bill by not replacing the ductwork. HE REFUSED!!! He also WOULD NOT get it permitted by the city. He said I had outstanding permits on my house, and therefore it wasn't his responsibility to follow the rules. Because I wouldn't sign off on the order for him to receive payment, until he reduced my bill by $1500 for the unreplaced ductwork, HE BEGAN HOUNDING ME AT MY WORKPLACE. I was working as a Loan Officer at Wachovia Bank at that time. He was a business customer with Wachovia Bank. He BEGAN TO THREATEN ME AT MY JOB, THAT HE WAS GOING TO PULL HIS BUSINESS ACCOUNTS FROM THE BANK UNLESS I SIGNED THE ORDER!!!!! This had nothing to do with my our transaction, but he was using threats and shady tactics to get me to pay him. I was soooo young at the time this happened. I was only 22 years old, that I didn't know what to do. I panicked, was upset, and signed the paperwork under duress. He SCAMMED ME out of $8k, for MERELY AN A/C unit. To this very day, I HAVE NEVER FORGOTTEN THIS INCIDENT. I will NEVER do business with this company again, I will fear them every time I drive past their stupid vans or signage, and I will WARN EVERY SINGLE PERSON I encounter to stay clear of these crooks. It was honestly THE WORST EXPERIENCE I'VE EVER HAD IN MY ENTIRE LIFE! (No Exaggeration)

After ordering and replacing UV lights for my Ultravation UV light systems on my 2 HVAC units and troubleshooting directly with Ultravation they were still not working. So I got a list of Ultravation contractors on their site and contacted CoolAir and told Desiree I needed someone specifically trained in Ultravation units. Eddie came out (who didn't know anything about Ultravation units except if they worked or not) and he checked the units and did tune-ups on both HVAC units. He was very thorough and courteous and even took the time to show me what he was doing. I was impressed, kindness can go a long way! He got me to sign a service agreement and got a price of $225 for the warranty install of both UV light systems from the main office. He told me an Ultravation tech would come to put them in. I wasn't sure if I wanted to send them back myself and then check around for pricing but I decided not to deal with it and I liked Eddie. About a week later, the units had come in from Ultravation and Sean & Doug came to install. They finished the units and later told me that they had to add 40VA transformers (to convert the current 120 voltage to 24VAC in the new units) and that the price would be $167 EACH! In my book that is NOT how a company does business and stays in business. Needless to say I was floored that they would have the gall to add an additional $334 to the original price that they had agreed to, quoted, and was in writing. I looked up the transformer prices on the internet and told them I could get a 40VA transformer for $10 and what was with the exorbitant markup? They showed me the price on their price sheet and it normally was $209 each but since I was on their service agreement I was saving 20%! So instead of a 2,000% markup I received a 1,600% markup, saving me big time. Even Sean & Doug couldn't legitimately explain the markup! They would not budge on the price and told me I had to pay the whole amount since the work was done. I had no choice but to pay because the technician didn't have the authority to bargain. So after they left I called the main office and asked who I could speak with the settle this matter of being charged 2 ½ times what I was quoted and was in writing. I talked to Veronica, who I assume was the owner, and she gave me her rhetoric about she was in business to make money and she doesn't know what I do for a living and that if I went to the hairdresser it was going to cost me more money than buying color in the store. What? Why doesn't she compare it with going to a mechanic where they give you the part number, a price for the part, and the labor cost all listed separately and you decide if you want them to do the work. It is reasonable if he buys the part for wholesale and sells it to you at retail which is a slight margin and than labor to replace. If he gave me a price of $209 for a $10 part I would go elsewhere. If a mechanic is reasonable and not trying to take advantage, then you usually will stay with him. If he is not than you find another mechanic. I felt like a victim of extortion when I was basically dropping business in their lap! Do NOT use CoolAir if you want to be treated fair and just. And Eddie was the only thing good about CoolAir and he was not with them anymore only a week after I signed a contract with them. Gee, I wonder why? Because he was courteous and likable?
