No school is perfect, but this is about as close as it gets. There is a special synergy in this school - a magical combination of teachers, parents, kids, the traditions, the location and even the building itself.

The cooperative model allows you to really get to know the children, the teachers and the parents. The school is no longer a separate place where your kids spend their weekdays. It becomes familiar, a home away from home. You become a part of this nurturing environment. It's an opportunity for growth and connection for parents too.

It isn't for everyone. It takes a certain type of family to enroll in a cooperative school, and you'll find just about every family is invested in their children. I've found these types are just about the most warm hearted and awesome people out there.

The kids I see at school are happy, and when they're not (because of course, this is real life) they're supported and guided until they find their equilibrium. My child has had some learning differences, and I've been very happy with the accommodations and flexibility shown as we meet those challenges head on. Saying that, no school is perfect, U-coop doesn't receive the funding that public school does to sponsor special educational needs. But because parents contribute to the running of the school, it is still half the price of private school - an excellent deal for the first rate education these kids are receiving.
